52S

Insignia of the 52S squadron.

1/ HISTORY

Heir of the 52S based at NAS Khouribga (Morocco) until 1961 and of an other 52S squad. based at NAS Port Lyautey (Morocco) flying Lancaster. It was recreated in 1983 at NAS Lann-Bihoué. It was equipped with EMB-121 Xingus. Since September 1st 1997, "twin-engined pilots" of the French Navy have been trained at the ETA (Ecole d'Aviation de Transport/ French Airlift Command School) based at Avord AFB (BA 702). That's why the ESM was disbanded and seven Xingus were transferred to the French Air Force which already operated this aircraft.

 

2/ MISSIONS

Training of young "twin-engined" pilots of the French Navy. Those pilots were allocated to the Br-1050 Alizés and Atlantique 2s of the French Navy.
