1/ HISTORY

The unit was born in October 1946 at Hyères, and was the main element of the Ecole d'Aviation Embarquée/ EAE (Embarked Naval Aviation School). It was disbanded in 1958 and its training missions were then provided by the 59S, which was initially an all-weather combat school. It used different types of aircraft such as Seafire Mk IIIs (1946-1950), SBD-5 Dauntlesses (1946-1949), T-6 Harvard Mk II/ SNJ-4/ -5s (1946-1958), MS-474s (1948-1952), F6F-5 Hellcats (1950-1958), SB2C-5 Helldivers, Junkers-52s (1948-1955), MD-312s (1955-1958) and Aquilons (1956-1958).

 

2/ MISSIONS

This training wing, provided training missions for LSOs, pilots and flight deck crews. Indeed, its main mission, was carrier qualifications for French Navy's pilots.
